Fun Games for Preschoolers

While a lot of parent think about what fun games and activities that they could do with their preschoolers, quite a number of them don’t actually understand what the term “preschool” means.

Preschools refer to learning institutions that teach children basic skills prior to entering Elementary school. “Preschools” can also be called Kindergarten, nursery schools, or play schools. These schools are primarily focused on the basic instruction of children ages 2-5. All children are required to have preschool instruction before entering Grade 1 in Elementary school.

It is the goal of preschools to educate and mold the essential personal, social and cognitive skills which the child would need as he or she grows older. It particularly focuses on teaching children to communicate both with other children and adults. Preschools also encourage children to show off their creativity and to express their thoughts, ideas and opinions through speech and the arts. Of course, preschools teach children the basics of reading, writing and mathematics. For kids who are not getting enough exercise at home, preschools have fun exercises and outdoor activities that will keep them in tiptop shape. In general, it is main goals of preschool education is the promotion of the child’s intellectual, emotional, cognitive and social growth.

Now that you understand what preschools are for, let us a take a look at some fun games for preschoolers. You will notice that these activities are not only entertaining, they are also educational.

Nursery Rhymes and Dancing Activities = Make it a point to teach nursery rhymes and other children’s poems to your preschooler. To make it even more fun, you can have them recite the poems while making hand gestures. There are special recordings of nursery rhymes that have been set to music. Not only can your preschooler recite the poems, they can sing and dance to them too. It also helps to sharpen their memory as well as enable them to develop their sense of rhythm.

Encourage Drawing and Scribbling Activities = No preschooler can resist scribbling or drawing. Give them child-safe pencils and crayons and lots of paper in which to write and draw in. Not only will this develop your child’s eye-and-hand coordination, you also allow him or her to express themselves through writing and drawing. You can also further develop your child’s recognition for various shapes and colors by giving them toy blocks or Lego. Encourage them to build stuff with these items.

Computer Activities = Most parents would hesitate to expose preschoolers this early to computer games. However, there are great educational computer games that would help in your child’s development. Check out computer games that have popular cartoon characters teaching preschoolers the alphabets, numbers, and colors. There are also other games that help in developing your child’s eye-and-hand coordination. Of course, make sure that your preschoolers’ computer time is monitored by you. As much as possible, do not expose your child to the Internet at this very early age.

Educational Trips = Because preschoolers love to explore, do not just limit their activities to the home and school. Take them to your local zoo or botanical gardens so that they will discover amazing animals and plants. Other great places to visit with your preschoolers include the aquarium and the museum.

There are other fun games that you can enjoy with your preschoolers, such as musical chairs, Chinese whispers and even some sports like jogging and kiddie basketball and baseball. When choosing activities for preschoolers, always remember that these games should have a balance between their entertainment and educational value.
